Island Cove - oil painting

This is an 8"x10" pallette knife, oil on canvas panel. Lots of blobs of paint on this one.
The Blue Line Gallery in Roseville is having a "Beach and Surf" show and sale in June so I'm stocking up on island themed paintings. I'll be painting a surfboard for the show too. That'll be fun. I was a glosser for Dewey Weber, Rick, and Gregg Noll surfboards when I was in art school back in the 60's, so this will be like the "Circle Of Life" coming back around.

Island Mini

Winter must be gettin' to me. I miss those warm sunny days and warm water and I'm wishing I was in the Islands. At least I can use my imagination and some paint to satisfy my thoughts for a while.

The Amazing Hummingbird

5"x7" watercolor
 Did you know...???
The hummingbird is the smallest bird and the smallest animal that has a backbone.
A hummingbird has no sense of smell.
A hummingbird can rotate its' wings in a circle and can fly backwards, forewards, up, down, sideways and even upside down. Not to mention hovering in mid-air.
During a dive they can reach 60 miles per hour and average 30 to 40 mph in normal flight.
The little bird has a heart rate that can reach 1260 beats per minute.
Percentage-wise, the hummingbird has the largest brainof all birds. (4.2% of it's body weight.
